Candice's Birthday Build - May 27-29

$500.00
sold out

Join us on the weekend of May 27-29, 2022 (Memorial Day Weekend) as we do a special house build in celebration of Journey to Refuge Founder Candice Bottomley.

Candice’s birthday wish is to be able to provide a home for a family in need. Join us as we cross the border to the area of La Mision in Baja, Mexico. Over the weekend we will build a home, bond as a group, and experience the culture of Baja.

Price includes lodging, meals, and transportation.

About this build:

“I met Aracely and her girls four years ago through another non-profit, and they gave her a microloan to start a small business which ended up failing. She’s a single mom with six kids, three of whom are grown now. Three of the girls are teenagers and still living at home. They struggle to stay in school, which requires transportation and uniforms, which are expensive. Aracely herself is somewhat illiterate. They’ve been living in a moldy trailer with no insulation and lots of leaks for the last several years. I’ve been there when it rains, and there are pots everywhere to catch the rain.

Journey to refuge has provided them with ongoing support for things like classes to learn how to make cakes to do this professionally in the future and have something to sell. The area of TJ they live in is not the safest, and Aracely keeps a very close eye on her children, unlike most mothers in the area who are out prostituting and leave their kids at home for hours at a time. Unfortunately, despite her best efforts, she will lose the house they currently live in on June 6 and have no place to go.

They own a small piece of land next door to where they live and are begging for our help to build a home. Please help us make sure Aracely and her daughters have a place to go. Together we can make that dream come true.” - Candice
